Dormicum belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines, which are central nervous system depressants. 

• Insomnia Treatment: It is indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia when the condition is severe, disabling, or causing extreme distress.
• Pre-medication: It is also used before surgeries or diagnostic procedures to produce sleepiness, relieve anxiety, and cause temporary memory loss (amnesia) of the event.
• Mechanism: Midazolam works by enhancing the effects of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, which results in sedative, anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing), and hypnotic (sleep-inducing) effects.
